Redwood School invited to work with Egyptian Paralympic committee

Date published: 24 January 2014

International Inspiration Programme

The school is proud to announce that we have been asked by the British Council to work with the Egyptian Paralympic committee to support the planning and provision for sports activities for youngsters with disabilities. This will involve a visit to meet with the President of the Paralympic committee and the opportunity to look at the current work taking place. A wonderful opportunity for Redwood School to further extend its links with schools in Egypt.

Year 6 Visits

This week we welcomed the pupils in Year 6 from various schools within the borough of Rochdale as part of their transition to become a member of our school community in September. They had the opportunity to visit classes, meet new staff and pupils and have a tour of the KS3 department.

Our 6th form students on the Internship Programme have this term started new work placements and are doing an excellent job and are being great ambassadors for the department! Well done to those students taking part and the staff and employers who are supporting the programme.

After School, Youth Clubs provision

A reminder that the After School Clubs (3.15pm every night except Tuesday) and Youth Clubs programme (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings 6pm – 8pm and Saturday morning 10am) started this week. It is vitally important that these are well attended this term and I would urge parents / carers to support the clubs where possible.

KS3

Pupils in Mrs Walsh English/Reading lesson have been working on Speaking & Listening skills. Each pupil delivered a PowerPoint presentation specific to their chosen subject. All pupils did extremely well and showed great confidence.
Some Year 6 pupils from mainstream schools visited us and took part in lessons; hopefully these pupils will join us next September.

KS4

Throughout this term we are studying sculpture in our art lessons with 4E and 4R. During the first half term we are producing our own Moai sculpture and creating a large class display. Abi used clay to form her own individual ‘Easter Island Head’ and Jacob painted our large sculpture made from mod rock for the class.

This week the Bridging Year visited Oldham College. They looked at the different options available to them for next year.

This week students from SSC have been busy working on their independence skills. They had to choose a filling and make a sandwich for a packed lunch.

A few of the Key Stage 4 pupils worked with Sean from Commando Joe’s. They played various team games and really enjoyed themselves.

SEB have a new bubble tube in class. It’s a big hit! Students have to press buttons to change the colours. Hassan loves changing the colours.
