Gym in a Spin for Wellchild

Date published: 23 January 2014

A Rochdale man plans to help UK charity Wellchild by cycling the 100 mile ride London event in the summer.

Vincenzo Iannidinardi is no fitness freak and openly admits: "When I started cycling I couldn't get to the end of the street without being out of breath.

"The bike sat in the garage for a long time and would have stayed there if it wasn’t for Fitness for Life.

"When I told them at the gym about the sponsored bike ride Steve Pollitt helped me change my fitness completely".

"Apart from the classes and a personalised fitness programme he has committed to helping me raise money for Wellchild by holding raffles and sponsored events".

The first is on 2 March and has been dubbed Super Spin Sunday with Vincenzo cycling for six straight hours on an indoor training bike.

"It’s a sponsored event so I am asking people to donate an amount for every hour in the saddle.

"Some of the club members who do spinning classes have offered to ride with me, and all of the instructors are joining in so it should be a fun day," said Vincenzo.

Natally Hedge who looks after membership sales for the club has also taken on the responsibility of chief fundraiser.

"We are a very friendly club and we were happy to help when Vini came to us. We have set up a Facebook page which will link to the club and to Wellchild"

"We want people to donate by visiting the page and pledging money. On the day we would ask people to come in and support us, members or not; all welcome".

Eddie Daniels, club owner, said:  "We are lucky to have five spinning instructors at the club so getting fit for cycling is made very easy.

"I think it's great and fitness has always been close to my heart but now it's about the money we raise for Wellchild, they are a great UK Charity and the work they do for sick kids is amazing”
