Laura Conway, Deputy Head Girl at Wardle Academy
Laura Conway, Deputy Head Girl at Wardle Academy, gives her view on her past few months at school.
In November I performed at the Royal Albert Hall with the Academy’s Youth Brass Band for the School’s Proms. It was my second time performing there, the first time being in November 2011.
In 2011 I found the experience to be extremely nerve-racking and even though I had performed there before, the second time was so much scarier!
I think that it was due to the band having a lot to live up to as we are the current National Youth Brass Band Champions of Great Britain.
The Royal Albert Hall is such a mesmerising place, it really does take your breath away. It is such a prestigious venue and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
During my experience at the Royal Albert Hall I also had an interview with Classic FM. Being filmed for such a huge radio station was quite surreal, but I felt quite relaxed as I had some of my friends by my side too. Before the interview, our interviewee didn’t go through with us the types of questions that we would be asked; we just had to go for it.
I thoroughly enjoy being Deputy Head Girl at Wardle Academy. It does mean extra commitments on top of all of my school work, being a musician, and other out of school activities, but it is more than manageable and definitely worth it.
