Class 3 cup of tea experiment
Date published: 20 January 2014
Class 3 from St John with St Michael CE Primary School in Shawforth carried out an investigstion in Science to show that some materials are better insulators than others.
The class needed:
- Tea cups
- Tea bags
- Thermometers
- Tin foil
- Paper
- Kitchen roll
- Insulated thermos cup
- Hot water
- Stop Watches
For Health and Safety the temperature of the hot water used must be no hotter than 60c.
The children found out that heat travels out of containers, that is why they need to be insulated. They found out that the tin foil was one of the best materials to keep the cup of tea warm.
