Deeplish Youth Group, based at Deeplish Community Centre, have shown off their skills in an annual football tournament alongside the Rochdale Youth Service at Kingsway High School.

The tournament, which took place on Friday 17 January, was organised and run by the youth group members and attracted around eighty young people to take part.

Youth Group member Mohammed Younis said: “I have been attending the Monday night youth group at Deeplish for the last six to seven weeks.

"We have worked on this project from applying for the funding to planning and delivering the football tournament. We have worked hard to plan and deliver this tournament with our youth worker.

"The tournament was successful and now we are looking forward to our reward”.

Nadeem Hussain, a local youth worker who helped with the project, added: “It’s good to see so much young talent and potential footballers for the future. We had young people from Milkstone, Deeplish, Freehold, Kingsway and Wardleworth.

"The tournament went well and all the young people enjoyed it and took part.

"We were really pleased with such a large turnout everyone got on really well and participated in the competition”.

Sophie’s team showed their skills by winning the 12-14 age range event, whilst the
15-17 year old category was won by the RSFC.
