Hamer Community Primary

On Monday our Year 1 and 2 children went on a visit to Manchester Cathedral where they were given a tour of the building, in addition they went out to compare the Cathedral with other buildings in the city centre including modern building types such as the Urbis centre. Thank you to all the parents who supported this experience for our children.

Further to their visit earlier in the week, the parents of the KS1 children were invited in to school yesterday to share the ‘Buildings’ topic and look at their children’s work and partake in some activities. It was brilliant to see so many parents in school working alongside their children

On Thursday 16 January our Year 5 and 6 children went to Clitheroe Castle as their entry point to their ‘Myths and Legends’ topic. The visit included a mystical tour around the castle and a workshop where all the children learnt about dragons and dragon slaying with Professor Wolf Ironshield. The children became official sword rangers and everyone had an amazing and magical experience.

Our Foundation children enjoyed a food demonstration as their topic entry point on Thursday. The Food Education Company came into school and did a live cooking experience for the children, talking about healthy choices and all the ingredients used to make some fantastic dishes. The children were joined by classes from Springside Primary and the experience was also well attended by many of our parents who all enjoyed watching someone else do the cooking!

As you know, the Head will be leaving the school at the end of this academic year. For information, the recruitment process for a new Headteacher for the school will begin today with the advert going in the TES and on Rochdale Council’s website.
