Turbine plans approved by committee

Date published: 17 January 2014

Plans to build a wind turbine on land around a former primary school in Kirkholt have been approved.

It is understood that the turbine will generate enough power for eight homes and will be built on the old Hill Top School site which lies off Hill Top Drive.

During a meeting of councillors on Monday 13 January, the committee approved the plans which are part of a wider wind energy programme that was agreed by the council last year.

With the scheme, the council will build and run its own wind turbines to help generate cash and green power.

The school was demolished and cleared last year and is currently awaiting housing developments. Objections were originally made by councillors Richard Farnell and Dale Mulgrew over plans for the turbine in that area.

Council officers recommended that the application be approved before the final decision was made on Monday.

Members of Rochdale’s Licensing and Regulatory committee have approved.
