Car showroom becomes car park

Date published: 17 January 2014

A former car dealership on Molesworth Street has been demolished and turned into a car park. The former Carcraft of Rochdale site will now provide an extra 50 to 60 car parking spaces for the town centre.

Rochdale based company Winterburns of Rochdale were hired to carry out the demolition after Carcraft identified the need for more car parking.

Owner of Winterburns of Rochdale, Stewart Winterburn said: “The Molesworth Street demolition is now complete and we have given that site back. We have now started work on the site on Water Street.”

Work on the site began at the start of the New Year with the company starting the demolition on 3 January. Stewart added: “It went perfectly but it was a lot of hassle with all of the waste that was in there.”

It is hoped work on the Water street site will now be completed by the end of January. “That site has gone perfectly too. We are just about to knock the final parts down” said Stewart.

It is understood that a January sale is currently taking place at the completed car park by offering spaces for £1. Stewart said: “Apparently the Molesworth car park is already full with the January sale in place so that’s good.”

After January, spaces will be provided all day for £2.
