Siddal Moor VEX Robotics Club
Date published: 17 January 2014
The VEX Robotics club at Siddal Moor Sports College has been meeting every Tuesday after school.
The year 8 and 9 students have been building Claw Bots using the VEX robotics kits and on the last week of term they competed against each other in a VEX game called “Swept Away”.
This game involved the students controlling the robots to pick up soft spherical and oval shaped balls and place them in a cylinder; alternatively they could move the balls onto their opponent’s side of the field.
Points were awarded for balls placed in the cylinder and points were deducted for balls on their side of the field.
This term the students will be developing a couple of robots to take forward to a regional competition at the end of February.
This time they need to design, build and control robots that can move and throw larger balls and hang themselves from a beam at the end of the game.
