5 W’s

This term’s 3D project is entitled ‘The 5 ‘W’s through book art’ to enhance and broaden the RE curriculum.

The book art project will involve children in some paper engineering. They each will be making an interesting book with flaps, pockets or pop-ups. The books will then be used to show what they have learned about the 5 W’s.

The five W’s are Welcome, Welfare, Word, Worship and Witness. We have had a new, colourful sign made to display at the main doors of the school.

Early bird week

Punctuality has greatly improved this week, our early bird week, well done to all children who have been in school on time. I would like to see this continue every day and not just for early bird week.

Bronze awards

Many of our children – too numerous to mention - have arrived at the milestone of 100 smileys and are their way to collecting 200 smileys for their Silver award. Congratulations to all.

Sports

Last week St. John’s took part in the Sainsbury’s School Games Athletics Finals and qualified for the County finals in the summer.

We often have comments from other schools/parents about the good behaviour of our children when attending sporting events. I would like to thank everyone involved for their good behaviour and the positive representation of the school.

Clubs

Afterschool and breakfast clubs

The charge for afterschool club and breakfast club is 25p per session. Please ensure that you pay for your sessions at the school office every week.

Homework club

Children must be collected at 4pm promptly.

Attendance and punctuality

Punctuality

Please ensure your child is in school for 8.50am each day. Lateness is very disruptive for the school and you should make every effort to be on time.

Attendance

If your child is absent from school, you must ring the school office on 01706 647195 before 9am to provide a valid reason.

Medicines can be administered in school by our qualified first aid staff and if your child is otherwise well but needs medication, please send them to school with their medicine and complete a consent form at the school office.

Holiday leave

Please do not ask for leave out of normal term time, this will not be granted and will be marked as unauthorised on your child’s register. Please be aware that penalty charges can and will be issued for continued absenteeism and you may lose your place at the school.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please note that the homework club on Thursday, 23 January is cancelled due to staff training. Please collect all children at 3pm.
