Colin Simpson sentenced for burglary

Date published: 14 January 2014

Colin Simpson (17/8/64), 49, of School Street Heywood pleaded guilty to Burglary and was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court to six months in prison, suspended for 12 months with 12 month supervision.

Michael Killaly, whose house Simpson targeted, grabbed his arm as he reached through a broken window and held onto him until police arrived on the scene.

Mr Killaly was so afraid of being burgled after being targeted in the past that he often slept fully clothed in his living room at his home on Rochdale Old Road, Bury.

On 26 September 2013 shortly before 2am Mr Killaly was awoken by a loud banging noise at the front door. He then saw an arm reaching through a broken window pane attempting to undo the lock.

Simpson was drunk and claimed that he had only broken into the property to have a look around.
