Littleborough Prosecution Society donation to Hospice

Date published: 13 January 2014

Springhill Hospice is set to receive a cash donation from the Littleborough Prosecution Society as it was chosen as the favoured charity by members of the society at this year’s AGM.

The donation of £139, which equates to £1 for every year of existence for the society, was this year matched by member Graham Poole of Poole’s Transport, Rochdale, meaning the hospice will receive a total of £278.

The 120 members of the society gathered at Littleborough Cricket Club for the AGM earlier this month and enjoyed their traditional roast beef dinner menu and a performance from a guest comedian.

Edward Wroe, secretary of the society, said: “It started off a as a serious thing over 100 years ago but the need for it has declined really.

“But I’ve been going to the AGM for over 20 years and it’s always a good night.”

The decision to make a donation from the proceeds of the night is a recent addition to the society’s AGM and Mr Wroe also explained the reasoning behind this decision.

“We never used to do this but a few years ago we got a new committee and we decided to give something back to the community.

“All four members of the committee usually choose a cause and the members of the society vote on the night for which cause they want to see the money go to.

“However, this year Graham said he would double the donation if it was to go to the hospice, so all four of us put forward the hospice as our choice.”

The donation must go to a ‘good cause’ within the boundaries of the old Littleborough Urban District Council and so the money will be presented to the Hospice Shop of Hare Hill Road, Littleborough.
