Cash and jewellery stolen in violent robbery

Date published: 13 January 2014

A couple were left startled when intruders broke into their Rochdale home and stole cash and gold.

The thieves also threatened to kill the couple if they did not hand over the jewellery and attacked the pair when they challenged the gang.

At about 6pm on Saturday 11 January the couple were watching the football on the TV in their lounge at Hawthorn Road in Bamford, Rochdale, when three masked men forced their way into the house.

After demanding cash and gold, the couple got up to try and stop the gang but were physically attacked and told they would be killed if they did not comply. The woman was then forced to hand over a number of gold bangles.

The thieves also stole a quantity of cash and then fled.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The thieves were said to be white and wearing masks and wearing dark clothing and gloves.

Detective Constable Amie Darnell said: "We believe this was a targeted attack as the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for.

"The level of violence these men displayed was absolutely appalling and we need to find the culprits as soon as possible. They broke into, threatened and physically attacked a couple in the privacy of their own home and subjected them to a sustained and violent ordeal.

"Understandably, they are very upset and deserve to see justice done, so if you can help us catch these men then please call us.

"If you have any information about what happened, or you suspect who may be involved, or you are offered gold bangles for a cheap price from anyone other than a licensed dealer then we need to hear from you."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8528 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
