Coffee Shop Business Enterprise Project

Date published: 13 January 2014

Matthew Moss learners in Year 7 have recently embarked on a new Project for January and have been given the task of working as young entrepreneurs to run a mini Matthew Moss business in the form of a coffee shop.

Learners will be involved in designing and planning the coffee shop. They will also help run it and play a huge role in ensuring that the business makes a profit.

Learners will be expected to; reflect on their business plans, critique each other’s input throughout the project and identify steps to helping move the business forward.

So why did we decide that this project would be purposeful and meaningful to the learners of Matthew Moss?

A recent report from ‘Prospects.ac.uk’ cited that employers were looking for abilities, behaviour and knowledge that demonstrate creativity, initiative and enterprise.

This project will certainly enable learners to think creatively and use their initiative through a real life enterprise project.

The Matthew Moss coffee shop will give learners the opportunity to develop the skills needed for the real world such as, communicating, problem solving, team working and reflecting.

Learners will be encouraged to; take responsibility for their project, work both independently and as a team and cope with various situations in which they see as a challenge.

We will be keeping you updated on the learner’s progress throughout this project and documenting how well they cope with real life demands of working in business.

If you are a local business within Rochdale and have any advice or tips for our young learners about running a successful business, we would love to hear from you.
