Neighbourhoods urged to grab their share of money pot

Date published: 10 January 2014

Residents across the borough have just days left to bid for a share of more than £20,000 to fund community projects.

The money is up for grabs as part of RBH’s ground-breaking Our Choice venture which gives people the chance to shape the future of their neighbourhoods.

Residents can bid to use the money on projects including IT classes, children’s activities and gardening projects.

Our Choice puts the sharing out of funds firmly in the hands of the residents who vote for their favourite schemes at an event called Decision Day.

The latest phase of the project is making money available in Freehold/Milkstone, Rochdale (£4,360); Plum Mill and Pot Hall, Heywood (£2,680); Cheapside, Middleton (£1,400); Ashbrook Hey, Pennines (£1,800); Birch View, Pennines (£3,370); Falinge Hill/Shawclough, Rochdale (£2,200); Dicken Green, Rochdale (£2,280) and Channing Street/Waithlands, Rochdale (£2,790).

The deadline for applications is Friday January 17 and Decision Day takes place at Heywood Civic Centre on Saturday 1 February (1-4pm).

Jonathan Walton, RBH Engagement Manager, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for residents to get funding for a range of projects that could greatly benefit their neighbourhoods.

“It’s easy to apply for a share of the Our Choice money and the potential rewards for your community are real and long-lasting.”
