Date published: 09 January 2014

Councillor Ashley Dearnley was invited to meet Prime Minister David Cameron at a reception evening on Wednesday 8 January as a way for him to thank him.

During the reception Councillor Dearnley met with other Conservative leaders as well as meeting and speaking with David Cameron.

Councillor Dearnley also got the opportunity to meet with Conservative MP and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles.

Councillor Dearnley said: “It was a very enjoyable evening. It was clear that in these difficult times the government is doing all that it can and all that is needed.”

During his time with David Cameron, the two spoke about issues in Rochdale and what is needed to stop old issues arising again.

“He is well aware of the issues in Rochdale and it was made clear that the officers within Rochdale Council, as well as the councillors, are working hard to make sure that these things don’t happen again,” added Councillor Dearnley.

Councillor Dearlney also spoke about the need to provide funds to local councils and spoke about flexibility with that funding.

This isn’t the first meeting with the Prime Minister for Councillor Dearnley, the two have met previously.

Councillor Dearnley said: “I’ve met him before. He is a very knowledgeable man.”
