Air Training Corps in bag-packing fundraiser

Date published: 09 January 2014

The 1263 Rochdale Squadron of the Air Training Corps participated in a fundraising event at Morrisons supermarket on Saturday 21 December 2013.

Members of the squadron, along with staff and committee members, helped Christmas shoppers with their bag-packing for four hours and in turn raised £750.09 to spend on equipment and activities for the cadets.

The squadron are always looking for new members and Adult Sergeant Leanne Casey said: “The Air Training Corps is for people ages 13 to 21 and whilst we’re affiliated with the Royal Air Force we’re not officially part of the RAF.

“We do all sorts of activities, shooting, flying, Duke of Edinburgh awards schemes and we visit RAF bases. You name it and we do it.”

Those that wish to get involved with the Air Training Corps can visit the base on Ashfield Road in Deeplish. Sessions run from 7.30 to 9.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and any newcomers must attend with a parent.
