Efit of a man police want to speak to in connection with a rape

Date published: 08 January 2014

A 32-year-old woman was raped on Lincoln Close at about 10.25pm on Saturday 4 January 2014. The man was very aggressive and pushed her to the floor in a secluded area surrounded by bushes.

The offender grabbed her hair and dragged her to the floor before raping her. He then fled towards the town centre, via Lincoln Street.

He is described as a white man, in his early 30s, between 5ft 9in and 5ft 11in tall, of slim build with dark hair and thick eyebrows.

He was wearing a grey tracksuit which had a darker patch across the back of the shoulders and the upper arms and he wore the hood up.

Detective Inspector Liz Hopkinson from GMP’s Public Protection Division, said: “Our thoughts are with the woman and we are providing her with specialist support and care whilst we work to find out who is responsible for this attack.

“Specifically I am appealing to anyone who may have been walking or driving along Lincoln Street between 10pm and 10.45pm on Saturday night to get in touch. I am keen to know what they saw that night.

“It may be that you didn’t see the attack itself but may have seen the victim or the attacker and your information could be vital.

“We have released an efit of a man who was seen in the area at the time of the incident. If you recognise the man from this image or have any information about the attack, please contact us with any information.

“We have increased patrols in the area and would urge anyone with concerns to contact police.

"Attacks of this nature are rare but I would re-iterate that people should remain vigilant and contact police if they see anything suspicious."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 1812.
