Happy New Year to everyone, may 2014 bring true happiness and many blessings on all!

News update for ‘Families and Schools Together’
Here is something a little different that I want to encourage you to join in with at school. ‘Families and schools together’ (known as FAST) is running at St. John’s school for 8 weeks beginning on Wednesday 23 January. It promises to be great fun. We can take a maximum of 40 families so please book early to avoid disappointment.

To be part of the fun you need to have at least one child between the ages of 3 and 7 (i.e. Nursery to Year 2). However if you have a child or children in Key stage 2 you can still take part as a parent partner or just as a general helper.

Your reward

• Share and enjoy a tasty meal with other families at school. All dietary requirements catered for (vegetarian/Halal, etc.)
• It’s all free!
• Meet weekly on a Wednesday after school and talk with other parents about common interests
• Free weekly raffle for a £25 food hamper or gift voucher
• Discover more ways to have fun with the whole family
• All family members are welcome
• Children can play with other children and siblings
• Children share some quality time with you, the parent!
•Children get to take part in great activities based around art and craft

If this form is signed and returned to your child’s class teacher, your child will receive a special TREAT.

Your child will also earn ‘smileys’ when they attend Wednesday club with you.

Each session will take place on a Wednesday after school and will take place at the school. One bonus is that your evening meal is sorted for you as the session involves enjoying a meal together. You won’t have to plan what to have for tea for 8 Wednesdays! The club will begin at 3.13 and will finish around 5.30pm.

The evidence from other schools that have run a FAST club is that parents and carers have enjoyed it so much they ran the sessions again themselves at a later date!

Forms will be distributed to children to take home for you to complete and return if you would like to join FAST.

Sacramental Programme – Journey of faith leading to first Holy Communion
A meeting for parents of children taking part in the sacramental programme will take place at 3pm in the school hall on Monday, 13 January. Parents and children should attend the meeting and a mass which will be held in church at 9.30am on Sunday, 19 January.

Homework club
We wish to encourage children to stay for the homework club where they can have an undisturbed hour of peaceful study. The club runs every Tuesday and Thursday during term time from 3pm to 4pm. It is not too late to enrol, make sure you mention to the class teacher or office if you would like your child to stay for the club. The cost is 25p per session and all we ask is that you collect your child no later than 4pm.

Sports news St. John’s and six other schools in the Borough took part in the athletics final held at Kingsway Park on Thursday. Results will be announced in next week’s newsletter.
