Date published: 06 January 2014

Five young people from across the Borough have had their commitment recognised as Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) announced their “junior wardens of the year”.

Corey Cregan, aged 10, was named "junior warden of the year" for Lower Falinge. Corey is always on time with excellent behaviour, and recently showed his commitment to junior wardens and to his community by doing some extra work at home.

Saffron Harper was named "junior warden of the year" for Smallbridge. Saffron always attends junior wardens with a smile on her face, and her enthusiasm is infectious. She is a very creative girl who is always helpful.

Joshua Exley, aged 10, is the "junior warden of the year" for Kirkholt. Joshua shows his commitment by always turning up on time and never missing a junior warden session, and he is always willing to help out and do the best for the community.

Louise Woodhouse was named "junior warden of the year" for Alkrington. Louise is always polite and helpful, and shows great commitment to her friends at junior wardens by turning up on time every week

Declan Gregory, aged 11, is the "junior warden of the year" for Back o' th’ Moss. Declan is a hugely valued member of junior wardens, who always goes the extra mile to help others and make sure that everyone is included.

The RBH junior warden scheme empowers young people aged 8-12 to play vital roles improving their neighbourhood and community. RBH runs a number of successful schemes across the Borough, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers supported by RBH employees.

Ruth Sillence, RBH Communities First Co-ordinator, said: “We’re really pleased with the contribution that our junior wardens across the Borough have made to their local community, and we’re also extremely thankful for our volunteers without whom the schemes could not operate.”

The successful junior wardens received their awards at the junior warden Christmas party, held on 23 December at Back O’th Moss Community Centre.
