65 year old woman injured in robbery still in hospital

The 65 year old woman who suffered from a broken leg after being hit by a fleeing robber could be in hospital for several days.

The woman was hit by the robber after he fled from Boots on Monday 30 December. A shop security guard was also injured during the robbery and has suffered injuries to his shoulder.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We currently don’t have any further information on the incident but we believe the lady could be in hospital for several days.”

The lady, who will not be named by police, was hit by a 32-year-old man when fled from the shop after taking an item from the shelf and putting it into his bag.

Sue Webster, Manager of Boots said: “It is an awful thing to have happened and we hope the lady is ok.

"Our security guard was also knocked down in the incident and has hurt his shoulder.”

The 32-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault and theft and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
