Pensioner carjacked on Queensway

Date published: 30 December 2013

A pensioner had her car stolen after a man shunted her vehicle as she was driving along Queensway, Rochdale at about 8pm on Sunday 29 December.

The 65-year-old woman was driving her Kia Picanto, registration number MT09 YUL, along Queensway and as she approached the junction with Hartley Lane, her car was hit from behind by a black car.

Both cars stopped and the woman and a man from the other car got out.

The woman left her engine running and, as she was inspecting her car, the man jumped in and drove off.

A second person also drove off in the offending vehicle, which was black and had the partial registration JV13.

The woman has only been able to describe the man as white, possibly Eastern European and he possibly had a moustache.

Detective Constable Laura Sutcliffe, said: “This was no accident. It was a calculated ruse by the offenders, who have deliberately and maliciously bumped into the woman’s car.

“She was alone and they have forced her to stop and get out of her car to unsuspectingly inspect the damage. Once the opportunity has presented itself they have driven off quick as a flash.

“The woman has been left completely shocked and bewildered by this scam and I am appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who knows the location of either car to come forward.

“I would also urge people to be aware of what has gone on and if you find yourself in a similar situation please ensure you remove your keys from your ignition before getting out of your car.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or 0161 856 4622. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
