Young people say thank you

Date published: 24 December 2013

One of Rochdale Youth Service’s youth clubs based at Smallbridge Library hosted a community cohesion fun day attended by the local councillors and Simon Danczuk MP.

The event was the youth club's young people’s idea of saying a big thank you to the community for their support throughout this year, during which they managed to raise funds for Springhill Hospice.

Rochdale Youth Services youth workers Mohammed Zarafat and Kath Flynn said that it was a fantastic gesture by the youth club.

Activities included a bouncy castle, henna artist, face painting, Christmas card making and a Santa’s Grotto from which the young people gave children of the estate a selection of presents to celebrate Christmas.

Local councillor Amina Mir said that it was yet another fantastic event.

Youth club member Hassan Shah said: "Me and my friends always look forward to attending our youth club on Wednesday evenings, we have had lots of fun at the youth club and its amazing how much fun we have had through learning lots of educational new skills through participating in the projects."

Mohammed Zarafat said: "The youth club would not have managed to achieve its success if it was not for the support of the local residents of Smallbridge and our partners.

"We hope that the community will continue to support us in the coming year.

"On behalf of Rochdale Youth Service, and all the young people of the youth club, we wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
