Date published: 23 December 2013

An 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted as she walked in Heywood.

At around 7.25am on Sunday 22 December 2013, the woman was walking on Tower Street. As she got to the junction of Sexton Street, she was grabbed from behind and pulled the ground.

He sexually assaulted her before she managed to kick him. He ran off in the direction of Pilsworth Road.

He is described as being white, 5ft 7in tall, of broad build, had blue eyes, in his mid 30s and had dark stubble. He wore dark top with a hood, blue jogging bottoms and a dark woollen beanie hat.

Detective Constable Nick Price based at Middleton Police Station said: “The victim has understandably been left extremely distressed by this assault. Thankfully she had the strength to kick out at him before anything else could happen.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who may have seen a man matching this description running towards the Pilsworth Road area to phone police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 1977 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
