Drake Street bus gate warning
Date published: 20 December 2013
Motorists are being warned not to flout the bus gate on the lower part of Drake Street in Rochdale town centre.
Concerns have been expressed by members of the public that inconsiderate drivers are ignoring red stop signs and continuing to drive through the gate, even when pedestrians are crossing and it is feared there may be a serious collision.
A spokesman for Rochdale Borough Council said: “Our investigations support these concerns, revealing that vehicles are ignoring all the signs and driving up Drake Street when pedestrians are getting a green man to cross.
“This action by drivers poses additional hazards once the trams come into use on this section of Drake Street. In response to these concerns we are introducing signs warning drivers of camera enforcement of the Traffic Orders.”
