List of schools affected by NUT strike

Date published: 22 April 2008

Twenty three of the boroughs schools will close when the National Union of Teachers have their one day strike on Thursday 24 April.

Some will remain open - for 32 schools it will be business as usual and a further 37 will be partially open.

Parents should now have received a letter from their child's school explaining what is happening on the day. Any parents uncertain about what is happening should contact their child's school immediately.

The strike, over pay, the first in 21 years, is set to affect other services too with many parents likely to have to take time off work to look after their children. The union is demanding a 10% pay rise, or £3,000 for every teacher, whichever is the greater. Education Ministers have offered 2.45% and this has led to the action - union officials are claiming that this amounts to a pay cut as it's below inflation.

The University and College Union (UCU) said lecturers in more than 250 further education (FE) colleges in England would stage a day’s action.

The Public and Commercial Services union has also announced that more than 100,000 civil servants working in 10 Government departments and agencies will strike on 24 April.

The stoppages will hit JobCentres and benefit offices and will affect other services such as driving tests.
