Man arrested following Rochdale assault

A man has been arrested by detectives investigating an assault in Rochdale.

At about 3.20am on Sunday 8 December 2013, a 22-year-old man was outside Yates' on Packer Street, when the offender approached him and struck him in the face.

The force of the blow knocked the man unconscious and he fell to the ground, banging his head.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries that included stitches to his face and treatment to swelling to his head. He has since been discharged from hospital.

On Saturday 14 December 2013, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He has been bailed until 31 January 2014, pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Chris Whalley, said: "I want to thank the public for their response following our recent appeal. We have received numerous calls that have directly resulted in us being able to make the arrest."
