Rochdale GP practice exposed as having 'catalogue of failings'

Date published: 13 December 2013

A GP practice in Rochdale is amongst those exposed by inspectors as having a "catalogue of failings".

Dr Harira Syed's practice at Nye Bevan House, Maclure Road, Rochdale was found by the Care Quality Commission inspectors to have no equipment available, such as oxygen, to use in the case of a patient emergency and not enough staff or adequate training in areas such as basic life support.

Dr Chris Duffy, Chairman of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We acknowledge the Care Quality Commission findings and accept improvements are needed to Dr Syed’s practice in Rochdale.

“We understand actions have already been taken by the practice to address some of the issues. We will be working with NHS England, the body responsible for GP contracts, as a priority to ensure Dr Syed’s, and all our other member CCG practices, meet expected quality and safety standards.

“Patient safety is paramount and patients can be confident that this report is being taken seriously and acted upon promptly.”
