Christmas card warns offenders GMP is coming

Date published: 11 December 2013

Offenders are being warned by police to behave themselves or face prison during Christmas.

The message is being delivered to criminals by officers via a seasonal Christmas card. The tongue-in-cheek card, which is being issued to more than 1,000 offenders, reminds them that GMP will be coming for them if they offend.

It is being issued ahead of the last posting date before Christmas on 18 December and features two GMP officers with a police car that has been decorated for Christmas.

Greater Manchester Police Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, said: “The card comes with a serious message to those offenders known to police. They have a choice either behave themselves or face spending Christmas with us behind bars.

“Our card will be issued to known criminals who will also get a personal visit from our teams to remind them that we won’t be taking our eyes off them, even during the festive period.

“We want the community to also take notice of this card because it highlights that we want them to be able to enjoy the holidays without the fear that they will become a victim of crime.”

In the last 12 months all crime has reduced by four per cent to 163,983 incidents, which is a result of a number of high profile operations such as Operation Resolute to target serious acquisitive crime, Operation Cairo to crackdown on drug dealers and Operation Challenger to target organised crime.

DCC Hopkins added: “Our officers have been working hard to keep homes safe from burglars, bringing offenders to justice and ensuring the safety of everyone on the streets and in their communities.

“We would like offenders to put these cards on their mantelpiece as a constant reminder that we are on their case and will take any offending very seriously. We will not tolerate it being ruined for families by a handful of people.”
