Celebration for former pupils of St. Cuthbert’s

Date published: 11 December 2013

Thursday 6 December saw a special celebration for the former pupils of St. Cuthbert’s.

The class of 2013 were invited to join together for one final occasion to celebrate their outstanding achievements. Over 200 pupils gathered in the impressive Great Hall at Rochdale Town Hall, many seeing each other for the first time after leaving school last year. The pupils were joined by parents and staff to acknowledge the fantastic GCSE results they achieved in August.

Headteacher Dr. Meehan welcomed guests and reminded pupils how each and every one of them was born for greatness and made in the image of God, an ever present theme throughout their five years at school. He continued by praising the pupils on their hard work and commitment which made them the most successful year group in the school’s history and has subsequently opened up many doors for their future career paths.

The main part of the evening saw each subject area given the opportunity to present an award to a pupil who had demonstrated outstanding academic achievement or had made excellent progress during their time at school. Pupils were presented with a silver plate in recognition of their accomplishments.

In addition to the subject awards, there were four additional presentations made to pupils.

Courtney Butterworth was presented with the award for ‘overall outstanding academic achievement’ after receiving 7 A* and 6 A grades.

Mrs Grande, whose daughter Francesca received the ‘outstanding contribution to the Catholicity of the school’, was delighted and commented on how “the school definitely lives up to the ideals subscribed to in its Mission Statement.

"We are so grateful for all your dedication and obvious commitment not only to the academic, but to the pastoral care of your children. We feel very lucky that Francesca was embraced by the St Cuthbert's family and it has been a huge influence in moulding her into the wonderful young lady she has become.”

Eilish Kenny was given the award for her outstanding contribution to school life, whilst Zainab Oyekunle was presented with an award from the Catenian Association in recognition of her resilience in the face of adversity.
