Officers cook up some Christmas cheer for residents

Date published: 10 December 2013

Officers in Heywood will be cooking a special Christmas dinner for vulnerable residents who have been victims of crimes including antisocial behaviour, burglary and robbery.

Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy and Chief Superintendent Annette Anderson will join officers at the Christmas Spirit Project on Tuesday 17 December at Cherwell Centre, Heywood.

The centre which provides support to vulnerable and young people in Rochdale suffered a break in earlier in the year. During the incident pet guinea pigs were stolen and thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused.

Food donated by local businesses will be used to make Christmas dinner which will be cooked by officers and each guest will receive a personalised photo with Santa himself.
Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: “We are delighted to be a part of something that brings some much needed Christmas cheer to local people who may struggle in the winter months or have unfortunately been a victim of crime.

“This is a great way to give something back to those in the community who are particularly vulnerable at this time of year and our officers will be on hand to make sure the guests have a wonderful time.”

Officers are asking the public for donations to the raffle which will be drawn on the day. Donations can be handed in to Middleton Police Station or contact Police Community Support Officer Jenny George on 0161 856 8701, all proceeds will go back into the Christmas Spirit Project.
