Simon Danczuk MP opposed to MPs pay rise

Date published: 09 December 2013

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk has said he is opposed to MPs receving a pay rise of 11%.

Parliamentary watchdog Ipsa is set to recommend a rise of £7,600 to £74,000, to come in after the 2015 election.

Ipsa does not need to get the agreement of Parliament to bring in the changes.

Mr Danczuk said: "This has been handled very badly and if there was a vote on the pay rise I would reject it. There should be no above inflation pay rises for anyone in the public sector during these difficult times.

"I am very clear that the cost of politics should be coming down. Under this Government we've seen daft referendums on Alternative Voting, which cost £70million and Police and Crime Commissioner elections, which no one wanted, and which cost another £75million. This is money wasted in my view and the public can see it."
