Roch Valley Way residents help victims of car accident

Date published: 09 December 2013

Daniel George, who helped passengers of one of the cars involved in a car accident on Roch Valley Way on Saturday (7 December) afternoon, has spoken to Rochdale Online about how he helped the people involved.

Daniel, who lives on Roch Valley Way, said: “I heard the crash and knew instantly what it was so I ran outside to see what was going on.”

As Daniel got outside he saw two cars which had been involved in a collision. Daniel described one car as “facing the wrong way”.

The occupants of one car, an elderly lady and an elderly gentleman were then helped out of their "smoking car" by Daniel and other residents.

Daniel added: “The elderly lady was trying to get out of the car herself but because of the impact she couldn’t quite manage it so I helped her get out and some other people helped the elderly gentleman.”

The elderly couple both suffered serious injuries in the accident but they aren’t thought to be life threatening. “The elderly lady had injuries to her head and the elderly gentleman was bleeding badly from the back of his head,” added Daniel.

It is understood that the car causing the accident overtook someone at high speed. With the bend being blind in that area, it is understood that the on coming vehicle stood no chance of avoiding the accident.

Daniel added: “The gentleman from the car that caused the accident didn’t seem to have any injuries. From what I could see, he was
walking around ok. He spoke to the police and they dealt with him and then he walked off.”

Images of the accident show how serious the accident was and the full impact of the collision. “When you see that picture, you
can really see how bad it was. It was just nice to see so many people come out and help,” said Daniel.

The accident occurred at 3pm on Saturday. The elderly lady and elderly gentleman were both taken to hospital and the lone gentleman of the second car is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
