Elderly and vulnerable adults living in Syke given advice at information event

Date published: 07 December 2013

Elderly and vulnerable adults living in the Syke area attended information event organised by Rochdale North Police Officers.

The event was aimed at these two groups in order to assist them over the Christmas period and hopefully give them some valuable pointers on how to avoid being a victim of crime this Christmas.

The event was a great success attracting over 50 members of the public, five key agencies offered advice and support and Shawclough Primary School provided a 20-piece school choir to help entertain the audience.

Councillor Andrew Neilson said: “I thought the event was a brilliant idea and went really well. All the people attending thoroughly enjoyed their day and all the agencies put across their help and support messages well. It was nice to see all the local people and agencies working well together for the benefit of the community.”

Shelia Action, Community Base Director, said: “I thought it was a super afternoon, very well organised getting all the agencies, Shawclough School Choir and the superb entertainer there to make the afternoon special. The buffet launched the Christmas festive season so well, as did the raffle prizes and everyone went home happy.”

Rochdale North Officers, Pc Daffern and PCSO Smith said they would like to thank everyone involved for their help and for the support of the local community centre, the shops, schools and the key agencies.

Bright and Breezy Catering, The Talbot Head Public House, The Hunter's Rest Public House, Stellalily Sandwich Bar & Deli, Shawclough Stores, Fielding's Newsagent, Chloe Victoria Hair Salon, Shawclough Hair Studio, Asda, Dane Street and Tesco Express, Whitworth Road all made "generous donations".
