Miss Galaxy Universe comes to Rochdale

Date published: 07 December 2013

Members of Miss Galaxy Universe headed to the Full Contact Performance Centre in Rochdale this afternoon (Saturday 7 December) to take part in team building events and to be trained by Martin Stapleton and Andy Tyson.

Miss Galaxy Universe is a fitness-based pageant and competitors today took part in a North versus South team-building event.

Sarah Donohue, who started the pageant two years ago, said: “It is a pageant for woman of all ages and different sizes.”

Today’s event brought together 30 women. Sarah said: “All of the girls get along really
well. Pageants are known for their bitchiness but everyone gets on here and they all know each other really well.”

During the team-building event, the women took part in a variety of fitness activities. The sessions were run by ex marine Martin Stapleton and Andy Tyson. Martin said: “They are a great bunch of girls who are really good to work with.”

Martin and Andy got involved with Miss Galaxy Universe after being invited to train founder Sarah. Martin added: “They contacted us about two years ago to train Sarah as a competitor and then asked if we wanted to get involved. They are great sessions to run.”

Sarah added: “Martin and Andy do really good sessions and know the best ways to train. They promote that Royal Marine ethos of sprit and discipline and that is something I want to give to the girls.”

Heather Cowley, who took part in today’s event, said: “It is absolutely brilliant to be a part of. I found out about it through a friend who said it was really enjoyable.”

Averil Henry added: “I would tell anyone thinking about getting involved to do it. If you think you are someone who can't do it then you are the right person to come along.”

Miss Galaxy Universe is about finding a woman who represents health, inner beauty, strength and individuality and is described as 'The Ultimate Fitness Challenge'.
