Heywood resident suffers facial burns

An elderly resident was rushed to hospital this morning (Friday 6 December) suffering facial burns after attempting to light a cigarette whilst wearing an oxygen mask.
The woman, who was at her home on Cartridge Street, Heywood attempted to light a cigarette after 7:30am. An explosion occurred which caused the woman to suffer burns on her face. The explosion also triggered a fire in the first floor bedroom of the property.
Paramedics and fire crews received a call at 07:38am and attended the incident. A small blaze had already been put out by the time
emergency services arrived.
A spokesperson for the Ambulance service said: “We received a call at 7:38am about an incident at Cartridge Street, Heywood. One person was taken to Fairfield Hospital for treatment.”
The condition of the woman is currently unknown.
