Fire at Arien Domestic Appliances

Date published: 06 December 2013

Disaster threatened when a leak from a large Liquid Petroleum Gas cylinder ignited in a blaze on the ground floor of the four story building at Arien Domestic Appliances on John Street yesterday (Thursday 5 December).

Firefighters, who used a remote water jet for two hours to cool the cylinder until it burnt itself out, have been praised for their quick actions which prevented the fire from spreading at the retail premises.

Watch Manager Gary Wilkinson said: "Firefighters worked hard to keep the fire contained to the first floor of the building and also successfully managed the leaking cylinder to prevent this incident from escalating."

A fire investigation team is looking in to the cause of the incident.
