1,700 homes lose power in Milnrow and Newhey

Date published: 05 December 2013

Up to 1,700 homes lost power in Milnrow and Newhey last night (Wednesday 4 December) due to an electrical underground cable fault.

One resident told Rochdale Online: “We suffered three power outages between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. Whilst the outages only lasted milliseconds it was long enough to set hundreds of burglar alarms ringing.”

A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “Power to 1,700 customers went off at 4:31pm yesterday. They were all restored with power throughout the evening with the remaining 137 homes having trouble being turned back on at 9.00pm.”

It is also understood that the problems with the power affected the tram services in Milnrow.
