61-year-old woman assaulted in Heywood

Date published: 04 December 2013

A 61-year-old woman was assaulted after she confronted two youths who were knocking bins over.

The woman was outside her house on Jeffrey Walk, Heywood when she noticed two people riding pedal bikes and knocking wheelie bins over.

She confronted them and words were exchanged before one of the offenders pushed her, causing her to fall to the ground. Both made off in the direction of Gaskill Street.

The main offender is described as being white, in his late teens to mid 20s, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, wore dark clothing and was riding a bike.

The assault took place at 4.10pm on Wednesday 27 November 2013.

Police Constable Judith Westmoreland based at Middleton Police Station said: “The woman was quite rightly demanding to know why these two people were riding around causing anti social behaviour for no reason whatsoever.

“When she did this, she was sworn at and pushed over causing injury to her arm. I would ask anyone who may have been in or around the area at the time of the assault and who believes they may have seen something to contact us.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
