Salvation Army Toy Appeal

Date published: 03 December 2013

The Rochdale Branch of the Salvation Army is asking for donations of new toys as part of this year's toy appeal. Toys donated to the appeal will then be given to vulnerable and needy children in the borough as well as families in the Rochdale area to ensure that they have an enjoyable Christmas.

Major Paul Wilson from The Salvation Army said: “We see the need to help families over Christmas and it is growing year on year with the difficulty of the recession.”

Every year the appeal helps hundreds of needy people within the Rochdale borough. Last year the toy appeal helped 400 children receive Christmas presents.

“It is a very successful appeal and we help more and more people every year,” said Major Wilson.

The SA is asking for donations of new items and a wide variety and a range of toys and gifts. The donations will then be wrapped and distributed to those in need.

“We are looking for anything from baby gifts and toys to vouchers for teenagers,” said Major Wilson.

This year the appeal is working alongside social services, prison family liaison officers, schools and a number of different organisations to ensure that those who need the help receive it.

Major Wilson added: “We are working with a lot of people to ensure we can help as many people as possible.”

The appeal has been running as a national event for 15 years and will be running this year until 13 December.
Donations can be taken to any of the three Salvation Army locations within Rochdale during their opening hours.

Drop off locations are:

  • Salvation Army, Newgate, Rochdale, OL16 1AW
  • Salvation Army Furniture Store, Rochdale, OL12 0UW
  • Salvation Army Charity Shop, Heywood, OL10 4NL
