Rochdale and District Motor Club Pennine Trial challenges riders

Date published: 02 December 2013

Members of Rochdale and District Motor Club competed in a Pennine Trial. For this trial, riders embarked on a course of ten sections and four laps.

Described as a “decent size lap” by rider Barry Bashplate, the trial was plotted using all of the clubs markers in an attempt to ensure no rider went astray.

Section one of the trial greeted riders with a graded hill climb. The general rule with trials is not to start riders with a hill start but this trial decided to bend those rules. Rider, Johnny Wilkinson selected third gear for the hill and gave it full throttle. On approaching the number three marker, he pulled a wheelie which he could not hold on to.

From there it was a on to sections two and three which were observed by ex Chairman Paul Johnson. Paul took marks off quiet a few of the competitors but not rider Ann Titley, who was riding her Beta with confidence.

Section four, nicknamed Cranberry was the big gulley of the trial and requiredriders to find their line and head upwards reaching the end card. A long run was plotted to section five which had riders battling boggy and slippery parts of the track.

From there it was a blast back into the quarry for the remaining five sections which included slippy rocks and grassy banks.

As the trial came to an end, and the mist from a cold November day passed, riders celebrated their challenging trial with a “couple of well deserved beers.”

Members of the club would like to thank those who helped to set up the eventas well as observers and riders who took part on the day.
