Three injured in car crash in Heywood
Date published: 01 December 2013
Three people were injured when a car crashed into a wall at Heap Bridge, Heywood at around 2.15am Sunday 1 December.
The driver was found by the side of the vehicle and the impact of the collision bent the steering wheel out of shape.
As paramedics tended to the driver, firefighters freed two men trapped inside the car.
All three were taken to hospital for treatment.
Steve Wilcock of GMFRS said: "The force of the collision pushed concrete blocks down an embankment where there is quite a drop to the river. They were lucky the car stayed on the road.
"The rear seat passenger was in considerable pain so we got him out first. He was between the footwell so we had to cut the rear door off to get him out, before helping the front seat passenger.
"Early indications are he may not have been wearing a seatbelt."
Mr Wilcock explained that wearing a seatbelt could save your life: "Everyone must wear a seatbelt."
