Date published: 01 December 2013

Yorkshire Street and The Butts in Rochdale Town Centre were packed full of families watching Father Christmas and his Reindeer parade through the town today (Sunday 1 December).

Father Christmas was pulled in his sleigh by his reindeer down Yorkshire Street and onto The Butts. He was followed by Littleborough brass band, street theatre and local school children.

Chief Executive of Town Centre Management Debbie Hernon said: “It has been brilliant. It is fantastic to see the event so well attended and this really does mark the start of Christmas for us.”

Once at The Butts, children could meet Father Christmas and feed the reindeer in their pen. Fairground rides were also on hand for children to enjoy.

Mags Eastwood, who attended the parade said: “It has been fantastic. I
have lived in Rochdale for a long time and it is nice to see so many people
here. I don’t think I have ever see this event so busy.”

Rachel Clare who attended the event for the first time, said: “It went a bit quick but it was very entertaining.”

Kim Gibbons, who also attended the parade for this first time this year, said: “It has been really good. I would definitely come again.”

Janet Saville attended the parade with her young grandchildren and said: “It has been nice for the kids and they have enjoyed it.”

Christmas events will continue in the town centre throughout December.
