Christmas Fair with a difference at Thrum Hall

Date published: 01 December 2013

Thrum Hall Methodist Church held a Christmas Fair with a difference. As well as a traditional Christmas Fair, the church held a Christmas tree festival with different trees and nativity scenes displayed around the church.

Reverend Helen Johnson said: “We have the fair every year but just wanted to do something a little different this year.”

Trees displayed in the church as part of the Christmas tree festival included The Christmas Story, Away in a Manager and Little Drummer Boy.

The fair also included stalls raising money for the church and for a variety of causes involved in the fair. The church Brownie, Guides and Rainbows groups were all involved in raising money.

Phyllis Hargreaves from Pennine Pen Animal Rescue had a stall at the fair to raise money for the animal rescue. She said: “It has been good. We have had a lot of interest and it has been nice to get involved.”

Stalls at the fair included a chocolate tombola, raffles, bric-a-brac and toys.

Reverend Johnson added: “It is a nice way to welcome people in to the church and to show them what we have to offer.”

Barclays Bank agreed that money raised on the chocolate tombola stall would be matched pound for pound by the bank.

Reverend Johnson also commented on how busy the fair has been this year. She said: “We have been very busy. I think we have been busier than last year.”
