St Thomas’s Village Fair

Date published: 01 December 2013

St Thomas’s Church, Newhey transformed St Thomas’s School to hold their annual village fair .

The fair was held throughout the school and saw classrooms turned into rooms filled with stalls and the headmaster’s office turned into Santa’s Grotto.

Church Treasurer, Garth Fell said: “The church organises the fair but we hire the whole of the school to host the whole event.”

The fair was held as a general fundraising event for the church and was described as the churches “biggest fundraising event of the year.”

Garth added: “We fund raise throughout the year but this is really our biggest event of the year.”

Organisers of the event didn’t have a fundraising total in mind. Garth said: “We might only know in a few weeks exactly what we raise because if things are left over from today, we might sell them in church.”

The fair had stalls including a chocolate stall, books, a raffle and a variety of games.

The event was also seen as a good community event. “It is a nice event for the community. You often see people here that you don’t see too often so that is always nice,” said Garth.

St Thomas’s Church located on Church Street, just off of Huddersfield Road, Newhey.
