Good OFSTED Report for Milnrow Parish CE Primary School

Date published: 28 November 2013

Milnrow Parish CE Primary School has achieved an overall GOOD rating by OFSTED following its latest inspection. This is an improvement on the satisfactory rating it received in February 2012 just twenty months earlier.

Headteacher Ms Lindsey Kirkham said: “We are very pleased with the rating OFSTED gave us.

"All staff in the school worked enthusiastically to develop a positive approach to teaching and learning throughout with high expectations. They encouraged the children to aim high, reaching above and beyond their potential.

“As a school we are extremely pleased with the outcome and that OFSTED recognised our staff as an enthusiastic team. We believe that it reflects accurately the hard work by all staff and governors in improving the standards of teaching and learning throughout the school.”

Since the inspection of February 2012, Milnrow Parish has introduced clear systems of rewards and sanctions for all pupils to improve behaviour. There has also been a marked improvement in the learning environment throughout the school. This was achieved by refurbishing and focusing on displays and good quality resources to aid learning.

OFSTED recognised the good achievement at the end of key stages of pupils in all year groups. They also said that pupils are ‘enthusiastic learners’ and that they ‘try hard and concentrate well in class’.

Chairman of Governors, Andrew Harrison said: “The governors are very happy with the final report. There are two main recommendations which will help to move the school towards outstanding in the future which are: to improve pupils’ achievement in writing by giving pupils more opportunities to write at length in subjects other than English and to increase the amount of teaching that is outstanding.”

Ms Kirkham confirms that these are the areas which the school will continue to develop in and says: “We are proud of our school and our children’s achievements, both academically and social, and know that this report is the start of many successful years to come.”
