Wardle Student Diary - 6/7 months before I leave for good

Date published: 25 November 2013

The past few months have been exciting for me; applying to sixth forms and going to the theatre are amongst some of the things I’ve done.

Applying to sixth forms was scary. First I had to decide what I wanted to do there to lead on eventually to a career and deciding your whole future in a few weeks is overwhelming.

Many of my friends already had their lives mapped out, whilst I was still completely clueless. Eventually, I just had to sit and think about what I could do after I leave school. After a very long discussion with my parents I decided on what I wanted to do.
Next, I just had to choose my courses around that – easier said than done – I must have changed my mind about ten times before deciding on what I wanted. After looking around the sixth forms, I knew exactly what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go, and what I wanted to be. I have already accepted a place at Rochdale Sixth Form, which was my first choice.

I can’t wait to walk out of this school on my last day knowing I am moving onto something great. Although, it will be very frightening and emotional, I’ll pull through. To me, it’s weird to think that most things I do this year will be the last time I do them at school, and that I only have around 6/7 months before I leave for good.

In October I went along with school to The Lowry to watch Educating Rita. Seeing the play on stage really helped me to understand the book we have been reading. To say it is only two people in one room for two hours, it is really good. I think this trip has assisted my understanding of the play, ultimately helping me when it comes to writing my essays and completing my English Literature exam.

In November I went to the Chill Factor to have a skiing lesson because I am going on the ski trip in February, and don’t know anything about how to ski. I am very proud of myself because I only fell over twice, which, if you know me, is some kind of miracle. I really enjoyed my time there and actually learnt a lot. However, afterwards I was achy and I hurt nearly everywhere. The whole trip has just made me even more excited to go skiing in February, I can’t wait.

I have to spend the last few months I have at Wardle working really hard to get the results I need to secure my place at sixth form.

The first few months have been hectic and I know that it’s only going to get busier as I come to the end of my time here at Wardle.

I’m apprehensive but at the same time absolutely thrilled to be going on to great things!
