Date published: 24 November 2013

Hundreds filled the streets as Littleborough got into the Christmas spirit on Saturday (23 November) with the official switch on of their Christmas lights. The lights were turned on by competition winner Maisie Webb and Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Peter Rush.

The event, which was organised by LEAF (Littleborough Events and Association Forum), included fairground rides for children and performances from Littleborough Brass Band, Dawn Chapman Dance Studio, More The Medley Choir and Hellfyre Magpies.

Mayor Peter Rush said: “It is great to see so many people here. I hope everyone has a good Christmas and I thank the organisers for the invite.”

10-year-old Maisie Webb, who turned on the Christmas lights, said: “It was a really good experience and was really exciting to turn on the lights.”

Chairman of LEAF, Steve Lister said: “It has been a wonderful day, an extremely successful event. I have to thank everyone who has supported the event and a big thank you to everyone who has come.”

Hilary Buckley, who attends the event every year, said: “It is a good turnout and there is a lot going on.”

Angela Banister added: “It is a really good event.”

Jeff Melia, who attended the event for the first time this year, said: “It has been great.”
