Jake Harris died after stabbing himself in the neck with a piece of glass after taking a mix of alcohol, cocaine and legal highs.
An inquest into his death heard how Jake, 21, went back to a friend's flat after a night out in Manchester on 27 May. Once back at the flat, the inquest heard that Jake snorted cocaine and drank vodka until 10pm.
Whilst at the flat, Jake and a friend then took strips of what they believed to be hallucinogenic LSD. After taking the drug, Jake threw himself into a full length apartment window several times. He then smashed a wine glass and stabbed himself.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene but once Jake had arrived at Salford Royal Hospital, he had already gone into cardiac arrest.
Jake's family were told the next day that he would not be able to survive without life support and that night treatment was stopped.
Analysis of the strips that Jake believed were hallucinogenic LSD found that they were the legal high 251-NBOME, also known as N-Bomb. The drug was classed as illegal in late 2013.
Jake, who worked at Whitworth Leisure Centre, died on 28 May 2013.
The inquest into Jake’s death has only been part heard and a final conclusion has not yet been reached. The inquest began on 19 November and will be continued in February. A provisional date of 5 February 2014 has been set.
