St. John’s cheers the soldiers return

Children from KS2 attended a parade at Rochdale Town Hall on Tuesday, 19 November to welcome home the First Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers from their tour of Afghanistan.

Children from the school lined along Maclure Road and waved their flags and cheered as the soldiers marched past.

Sports results

Netball league
Our team: Joao, Wisdom, Nondja, Maria, Sarra, Jennifer and Primrose.

Match played on Tuesday 12 November against St. Vincent’s resulted in a 6-3 defeat for St. John’s.

Gymnastics
We took fourth place out of eight for gymnastics on Thursday, 14 November at Cardinal Langley. Our team was: Terrence, Anisio, Paris, Melissa and Miyanwi.

Sports events for this week

We are going participate in the following events:
Tuesday, 19 November, boy’s football at Sacred Heart.
Thursday, 21 November, KS1 gymnastics at Cardinal Langley.

Fundraising

The cake sale held on Friday, 15 November in aid of the Philippine Typhoon disaster raised £155.

The sale of items for the Rainbow Family Trust Charity raised £60.12. This charity raises money for Francis House children’s hospice and offers respite to terminally ill children.

Homework club

The new homework club starts on Tuesday, 26 November and will run every Tuesday and Thursday in school from 3pm to 4pm. A charge of 25p per child, per session will apply and is for children in KS1 and KS2 classes. All children must be collected promptly at 4pm.

16 December Children to sing Christmas carols at The Mews.
17 December Foundation Nativity, 2pm in the school hall.
18 December KS1 Nativity, 2pm in the school hall.
19 December KS2 Advent service and Christmas carols, 2pm in the school hall.
20 December Awards ceremony.

Afterschool and breakfast clubs
The charge for afterschool club and breakfast club is 25p per session. Please ensure that you pay for your sessions at the school office every week.

Homework club
The homework club runs 3pm to 4pm every Tuesday and Thursday for children from KS1 and KS2. There will be a charge of 25p each child, each session.

Attendance and punctuality
Please ensure your child is in school for 8.50am each day. Lateness is very disruptive for the school and you should make every effort to be on time.

Attendance
If your child is absent from school, you must ring the school office on 01706 647195 before 9am to provide a valid reason.

Medicines can be administered in school by our qualified first aid staff and if your child is otherwise well but needs medication, please send them to school with their medicine and complete a consent form at the school office.

Holiday leave
Please do not ask for leave out or normal term time, this will not be granted and will be marked as unauthorised on your child’s register. Please be aware that penalty charges can and will be issued for continued absenteeism.

We next break up at 3pm on Friday 20 December for Christmas and return on Monday 6 January.
